bears!

Monday, May 19th, 2008

well, it’s official.
the coolest place in osaka is bears.

its a tiny little basement venue, dirty, scungy and underground in every sense of the word. its been around for 21 years, and they host all manner of musical nastiness. we went to noise may day, a yearly gathering of ‘musical’ weirdos. i’m pretty sure there were more distortion pedals than people in the crowd (and the place was full!). check the video, masonna is a madman, solmania have the coolest modified guitars ever (even better than simmo’s egg guitar) and jojo hiroshige bought out some born-again-christian-looking lady that proceded to produce the most ear piercing shreiks i’ve ever heard. ouch!

autechre live…

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

well, one good thing about living in a big city is that the best bands come to play. here’s the proof. the red lights are the drum machines in action. very cool. as a bonus, this gig also featured the most rubbish support act i’ve nearly ever seen.

jellyfish

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

we went to the aquarium. its fine to keep jellyfish in an aquarium, but the manta rays and penguins had some serious mental health issues, the poor things… heard the words ‘oishi so’ a few times (which means delicious), which was pretty entertaining. sea otters are cool, but the octopus looked far too much like a giant scrotum, so we won’t make you watch that.
